Social media is your online “word of mouth.”  You know that people talking about your business is one of the best ways to bring in more business, but in today’s society, improving your online presence is one of the best ways to increase potential customers’ awareness of your company and bring in business.  Social media management should, therefore, be a critical part of your marketing strategy.

 

Develop an online presence.

For many businesses, the best way to bring in potential clients is through their online presence.  Businesses that market to mothers of small children, for example, will find that many members of their target audience spend a great deal of time online.  Even local businesses, however, benefit strongly from connecting with potential customers online.  Consider this:  when you’re looking for a business that offers a particular product or service, how do you find it?  Most people go online and perform a quick search.  If you don’t have an online presence, they can’t find your business!

Build positive rapport with your customers.

The more time you spend with your customers, the better the odds that they will become repeat customers who come back to your business whenever they need your product or service.  By keeping yourself uppermost in their minds, you keep them from being enticed away by deals and offers presented by another company.  Ideally, your social media management strategy should include plenty of opportunities for interaction with your customers.  Answer their questions, encourage their comments, and even ask interactive questions of your own to help build customer rapport.

Offer opportunities for reviews.

Many people trust word of mouth recommendations over any other form of review, but in today’s society, “word of mouth” recommendations also extend to reviews written by real people.  Customers who write reviews on your social media accounts, particularly those who have to use their names or screen names to do it, are building other people’s opinions of your business.  Every positive review is another opportunity for potential customers to see your company in a better light.
